Nigerian senator denies agreeing to pay for kidney donor. 1

Ike Ekweremadu, a wealthy Nigerian senator accused of organ harvesting, denies having promised money or any material incentive to a Lagos street trader. The senator’s wife and daughter are also on trial, along with Obinna Obeta, for allegedly conspiring to exploit the young man for his body part. Ekweremadu, former deputy president of Nigeria’s Senate, testified that he instructed Obeta to “abide by the law” in his search for a donor for his daughter, who suffers from a serious kidney condition. The prosecution alleges that the street trader was brought to London and offered up to £7,000 for his kidney, falsely claiming he was Sonia’s cousin.
