Mexican authorities discovered 343 migrants, including 103 unaccompanied minors, in an abandoned truck container on a Veracruz highway route commonly used by smugglers to transport individuals from southeastern Mexico to the US border. The trailer, found on Sunday evening, possessed cut fan and ventilation ports on the roof while migrants wore identifiable color-coded bracelets as smugglers’ clients. The adult migrants hailed mainly from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Ecuador, while the children were mostly from Guatemala. Reports indicate that the migrants were healthy, and the reason why the driver fled remains unclear. Despite discovering past fatalities inside abandoned cargo containers, migrants found on Sunday were unscathed, demonstrating the increasing expertise of migrant smugglers in their methods. Those who make it to the US pay smugglers to bring their offspring afterward.
