According to records, a federal department sent a blacklist of over 200 trucking companies that employed individuals supportive of the Freedom Convoy to Canadian officers of foreign banks, one of which was headquartered in Beijing. The Public Safety Department responded to Conservative MP Arnold Viersen’s question, saying that Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s office emailed a blacklist to the RCMP naming 201 trucking firms. The RCMP did not place any restrictions on the blacklist’s distribution, and it was sent to foreign banks, including the Bank of China, State Bank of India, and Citibank of New York. The RCMP also shared the blacklist with online banking and investment companies, such as Questrade and WealthSimple Inc. By official estimates, approximately $7.8 million from bank accounts and bitcoin wallets owned by Freedom Convoy sympathizers were frozen by federal authorities at the time of the protests. Accounts were frozen based on an RCMP blacklist.
