Mikaela Shiffrin wins Slalom at World Championships. 1

Mikaela Shiffrin put herself in a great position to win her fifth world championship slalom title after a flawless first run on Saturday in Meribel, France. The American clocked a time of 52.54 seconds, 0.19 seconds ahead of Swiss Wendy Holdener and half a second ahead of Canada’s Laurence St-Germain. Shiffrin has already won the giant slalom this year, taking her world championships medal haul to 13 and tying Anja Paerson for second most ever. Austria’s Katharina Liensberger, who won the slalom gold in 2021, was only 14th in the first run. The top 30 from the first run will compete in the medal run, and Shiffrin will be the last to go. She noted that the tricky part will be if the tracks start to freeze, but she hopes it will be the same.
