Mexico travel for Spring Break warned by guide, Sheriff. 1

Law enforcement officials, security experts, and travel industry professionals are cautioning travelers about the risks of traveling to Mexico for spring break. This warning comes in the wake of the recent kidnapping and shooting of four Americans, resulting in two fatalities, in Matamoros, a border city. The Southwestern Border Sheriff’s Coalition strongly advises against travel to Mexico due to the rise in violence and crime, which has become normalized. However, popular tourist destinations such as Riviera Maya and Cancun are generally considered safe. Despite this, former FBI Agent James Conway advises travelers to exercise caution, stick to resorts and popular tourist areas, and carry minimal cash and valuables. The recent incidents also highlight the security risks associated with ride-sharing services, which have resulted in attacks on drivers and their clients. Although violence in Mexico may be commonplace for locals, travelers are urged to avoid certain areas and practice extra precautions while traveling.
