Germain Lemay, a Quebec man, pleaded guilty to uttering threats toward Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Quebec Premier François Legault in a series of online videos. Prosecutor Geneviève Crépeau confirmed that Lemay pleaded guilty to five charges at the courthouse in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The threats were made in videos posted between July and September 2023, and also included threats to any police officer who came on his land, as well as an employee of Quebec’s workplace health and safety board. Additionally, he admitted to threatening to burn, destroy, or damage an office of the workplace health and safety board, and to storing firearms improperly.
Along with his guilty plea, Lemay’s trial on two other charges began on January 22, including pointing a firearm at a police officer and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. The Quebec provincial police had previously shot and wounded Lemay during an early morning raid on his Scotstown, Quebec home on September 27.
As a related story to this incident, a man previously threw gravel at Trudeau during a campaign, and Trudeau was called to testify on this incident in court during a 2021 campaign.
