Kim Young-rok, the governor of Jeollanan Province, South Korea, promoted traditional Korean food in New York. He joined The Taste of Jeollanan-do, an event at 5th Avenue in Manhattan, on Jan. 12 along with Korean Cultural Center New York director Yun Jeung Jo, Haenam County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan, and Yeongam County Mayor Woo Seung-hee. Haenam and Yeongam are two counties in Jeollanan Province of South Korea. Karen Page, the author of Flavor Bible, and Michael-Ann Rowe, an Emmy Award-winning food and travel specialist, also joined the event. The event also highlighted the launch of the jnmall.us, an online shopping mall features foods and culture of Jeollanan Province.
Jeollanan is the southmost province in Korean mainland with five cities, seventeen counties, and around two million people. It has an impressive 3,790 miles (6,100 kilometer) of coastline. The coastal province is known for impeccable seafood, fresh agricultural produce, and untouched natural beauty. Mr. Kim shared that Jeollanan is not only South Korea’s warehouse of grain and culture, but also “a beautiful area with perfect combination of nature with island, sea, grain field, mountains, and rivers.”
Mr. Kim stopped by the New York City after leading a delegate of 11 wind farms to the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas, held between Jan. 7 and Jan. 10. Jeollanan has made notable progress in energy transition with many energy companies and has put much effort into developing more offshore wind power and solar panel projects.
