Kim Jong Un calls for increased military exercises in preparation for a possible war. 1

North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has instructed the military to increase training exercises to prepare for a “real war” if needed, according to state media reports. This directive followed a drill that Kim oversaw, which demonstrated the country’s ability to counter an actual war. On Thursday, South Korea’s military reported that North Korea had launched a short-range ballistic missile off its west coast, and it is investigating whether multiple missiles were launched at the same time. North Korean state media released images showing at least six missiles being fired simultaneously. Kim’s young daughter accompanied him during the drill. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has said that his country will enhance joint military exercises with the US and boost its retaliatory posture. North Korea considers the Freedom Shield exercises, due to start next week, as preparations for an invasion.
