Imran Khan attends court amid protests in Pakistan 1

Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, made an appearance in court in the country’s capital Islamabad on Saturday, as requested by judicial orders after a police standoff. Khan, who held office from 2018 to 2022, is currently facing a number of legal challenges, including accusations around the unlawful sale of state gifts given to him by foreign dignitaries while in office. He denies these charges and claims to have followed legal procedures in acquiring the gifts. Earlier in the week, police and Khan’s supporters clashed outside his home during an arrest attempt, leading to further clashes on Saturday. Despite fears of arrest, the court granted Khan protection against arrest on the condition he made the appearance. However, before the appearance, police also entered Khan’s home in Lahore, arresting some of his supporters.
