Hugh Grant's suit against The Sun tabloid to proceed in court. 1

A lawsuit filed by actor Hugh Grant against The Sun tabloid’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN), alleging illegal snooping on him, has been allowed to proceed by a London court, which rejected NGN’s attempt to have the case thrown out. The lawsuit involves allegations of tapping Grant’s home phone, bugging his car, and breaking into his home for information-gathering purposes. The judge stated that a trial would determine whether NGN carried out unlawful acts as alleged by Grant, and these allegations would point to deliberate wrongdoing on an institutional basis if proven true. NGN had argued that claims filed by Grant and Prince Harry regarding unlawful information-gathering should be thrown out on the six-year time limit. However, the judge did not address the Duke of Sussex’s case and set another hearing to hear more about Harry’s allegations. The judge also dismissed Grant’s phone hacking claims on the grounds of the time limitation, but the case could proceed on other allegations made by the actor. Grant had previously settled a phone hacking case with News Group’s News of the World. News Group denies the allegations made by Grant and Harry.
