GB News violated COVID-related broadcasting regulations, says Ofcom. 1

Ofcom, the media regulator in Britain, has determined that a Mark Steyn show episode on GB News breached its broadcasting rules and was “potentially harmful and materially misleading”. Ofcom concluded that the show presented a “materially misleading interpretation of official data without sufficient challenge or counterweight, risking harm to viewers.” The ruling stated that the program was in breach of Rule 2.2 of the Broadcasting Code and had the potential to mislead viewers into making important decisions about their health. GB News, which believes that freedom of speech and thought is essential for an open and honest society, expressed disappointment with the ruling and stated it is an important story in the public interest. An additional investigation into an episode of Mark Steyn, which aired on Oct. 4, 2022, remains ongoing.
