Former Army employee at South Korean facility charged with bribery and fraud. 1

A former civilian employee working at a U.S. Army facility in South Korea was arrested on Monday for receiving $400,000 in kickbacks from military contractors. Young Beom Kim, aged 62, was overseeing construction contracts at the Army Garrison Yongsan-Casey from 2017 to 2021. He allegedly ensured that contracts for equipment, including blast doors to protect Army personnel from an attack, went to companies that had paid him a commission. The Yongsan-Casey facility is located close to the North Korean border. Kim, a U.S. citizen and South Korean resident, pleaded not guilty to six counts of wire fraud, bribery, and money laundering. He was released on a $250,000 bond to home detention with family in New Jersey. Prosecutors stated that he had received kickbacks from both the United States and South Korea-based suppliers.
