In an effort to travel to Brazil to visit his girlfriend, Ihsan Abdul Salam became the target of an impostor website scam while booking his flight. Having been a loyal customer of Flight Centre for centuries, Ihsan was shocked to learn that the $2,280 booking he had made for his trip to Brazil did not actually exist. This came as a result of a fraudulent listing that was discovered by more than 200 individuals being taken down by the international travel company of Flight Centre. Upon arriving at the Vancouver branch of Flight Centre, Mr. Salam was informed that the site was a scam and that he was not the only one dealing with this troubling issue.
In an effort to battle these impostor websites, Flight Centre and its legal team collaborated with search engines to take down fake listings. While there were various fake listings that managed to re-appear on search engines, the authentic Flight Centre website began to carry a prominent warning about these fakes. Meanwhile, Mr. Salam was able to travel to Brazil in October and still had an enjoyable time despite the unfortunate experience with the fraudulent website. He said he planned to visit Dubai to see his family in hopes that he could avoid encountering a similar scam.
