Former Australian Labor Senator Stephen Conroy has revealed that Beijing launches cyberattacks against Australian businesses and government departments on a daily basis. Conroy made the comments after former Prime Minister Paul Keating claimed that the Chinese Communist Party posed no military threat to Australia. Keating’s comments were part of a critique of the AUKUS deal, which he criticized Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Defence Minister Richard Marles for pursuing. In response to Keating’s remarks, Conroy stated that he has seen security reports showing China’s daily attacks on Australia’s companies, government, and infrastructure, and praised the AUKUS deal as a necessary response to Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific. Conroy also called on Keating to address Beijing’s influence over the nearby Solomon Islands and its military deal.
