Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland’s current status with the World Economic Forum (WEF) is currently unavailable, as no stakeholders are willing to comment on it. Additionally, Ms. Freeland is no longer listed on the WEF website that lists members of its leadership team. Her removal from the page occurred between Nov. 23 and Nov. 30, 2023.
The Epoch Times has made several attempts to contact Ms. Freeland’s press secretary, the Finance Department, and the WEF to receive an update on her status, but none have responded. The publication has also filed an access to information request to obtain confirmation. However, the information may also become available through Ms. Freeland’s annual update with the Ethics Commissioner in May.
The last annual review with the Ethics Commissioner was on May 15, 2023, which indicated her role as a member of the board of trustees of the WEF. This upcoming update will confirm whether she has left the organization. Nonetheless, it won’t clarify the circumstances of her exit.
The Ethics Commissioner’s past two annual reports have highlighted requests from the public to investigate MPs and ministers’ involvement in the WEF, which did not provide enough information to warrant an investigation. The WEF, a globalist organization run by leaders in business, politics, and activism, has a commitment to improving the state of the world. It drives a progressive agenda and encourages increased private-public partnerships, with specific initiatives that have policy impacts.
Canada has participated in at least two WEF projects, such as the Known Traveller Digital Identity and the Agile Nations network. The WEF forum takes place annually in Davos, Switzerland and this year’s meeting begins on Jan. 15 with the theme “Rebuilding Trust.” The Canadian government has been discreet about any activities related to the WEF in the past year.
In 2023, Ms. Freeland attended the forum and participated in public and private sessions. The WEF is led by Klaus Schwab, who has thanked Ms. Freeland for her leadership in ensuring multistakeholder efforts remain focused on equitable, sustainable, and just results.
