An article in The Epoch Times reported that a Ukrainian peace proposal brokered by China might damage the reputation of the United States. According to Gregory Copley, President of the International Strategic Studies Association, China recently released a position paper on February 24th expressing a desire to mediate the conflict, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently arrived in Russia to discuss China’s proposals for resolving the conflict. Copley believes that if Jinping can translate the meeting into a success, then he will have created enormous prestige, and the United States will have lost it. Copley stated that the deal is likely to involve face-saving compromises by both combatant presidents and create a larger trading environment post-war for Beijing and the Eurasian trading bloc, which could be damaging to the United States. The US and its allies will attempt to undermine the Chinese peace deal and insist that Ukraine keep fighting the war. Copley called for greater statesmanship in the West instead of this jingoistic policy that the West is currently pursuing towards the conflict.
