Bill aims to stop federal employees from trespassing on Alberta's private land. 1

The province of Alberta has announced plans to introduce a new legislation that would prohibit federal government employees from trespassing on private property. This legislation, which will be presented in the final session before the upcoming provincial election scheduled for May 29, will amend existing laws to prevent federal government agents from entering privately owned land in the province. The proposed Red Tape Reduction Statutes Amendment Act, also known as Bill 9, includes provisions that would result in charges being laid on federal employees who violate the new law. According to House Leader Joseph Schow, the new legislation is aimed at protecting property rights in Alberta. While there have been no confirmed cases of federal employees trespassing on private land in the province, concerns have been raised by local landowners following similar incidents in Saskatchewan. The province’s justice minister, Tyler Shandro, is expected to provide further details about the bill once it has been introduced. The announcement has attracted criticism from the opposition NDP, who view the new legislation as a distraction from important issues and a way of picking fights with the federal government.
