Biden to Visit Northern Ireland for Good Friday Anniversary. 1

President Biden plans to visit Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in April to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which the US helped broker. During a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who invited him to Northern Ireland, Biden confirmed his intention to visit. The Good Friday Agreement, signed in 1998, aimed to end 30 years of violent conflict in Northern Ireland. Biden, who often speaks about his Irish ancestry, is a long-time supporter of the peace deal. However, his visit comes at a time when Brexit has created instability and trade barriers in Northern Ireland, leading Biden to stress the importance of peace in the region. The visit will be the first by a US President to the capital since 2013.
