Biden pledges to back joint fighter jet training for Ukraine. 1

During a meeting with G-7 leaders on Friday, President Joe Biden confirmed that the United States intends to support joint efforts to train Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation fighter jets, including US-made F-16s. In addition to this decision, the US will allow its Western allies to supply fighter planes to Ukraine. The National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, shared with reporters that the US aims to provide weaponry, systems, and training that Ukraine requires for offensive operations during spring and summer. The F-16 is considered one of the most reliable fighter planes globally, armed with precision-guided bombs and missiles that Ukraine can use to strike Russian targets with increased accuracy, even in unfavorable weather conditions or at night. While Ukraine has been pushing for more advanced warplanes to help protect its airspace, the US and its partners previously hesitated out of concern that doing so might lead to further escalation with Russia.
