Everything Electric CEO mentioned that Chinese brands are expanding their electric vehicle models more quickly than their European, Japanese, and American counterparts. Furthermore, the annual Everything Electric show, Australia’s largest EV show, will double in size in 2024 due to growing local demand. This expansion means that the show will take up a larger venue, and more products and interactive elements will be on display compared to previous years.
The show, scheduled for February 2024 at the Sydney Showground, will host twice as many manufacturers and offer more test drives to attendees. The CEO, Dan Caesar, commented that test drives are a key feature of the show and that they are aiming to run several thousand each day in Sydney. He also mentioned that this expansion reflects Australians’ increasing interest in renewable energy and electric transport, bringing them closer to other global markets.
Notably, the event will also include electric bikes and scooters, solar products, battery storage, and energy-efficient appliances. This growth of the show was welcomed by the organisers, as twice as many manufacturers signed up to participate in 2024, offering a diverse array of car models. They attributed the swift expansion to both Tesla and BYD making their presence known in Australia. Caesar emphasized that Chinese brands in particular have quickly gained global product reach, outpacing European, Japanese, and American manufacturers.
Coincidentally, this announcement comes at a time when Australia is experiencing a surge in electric vehicle sales. According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, new EV sales in 2023 more than tripled, with over 80,000 EVs sold compared to the previous year’s 28,326. Tesla remained the most popular EV in Australia, followed by two Chinese manufacturers, BYD and MG, as well as Volvo. Despite the rising popularity of EVs, petrol and diesel cars still made up the majority of vehicle sales.
