Australian dies on Everest charity climb. 1

An image of Mt Everest is displayed at the beginning of the article. Jason Kennison, an Australian man who had been attempting to raise funds for spinal injury support, died while descending the mountain on May 19. His family confirmed his passing on social media, noting that although he had accomplished his goal of reaching the summit, he did not make it home. Kennison, an engineer from South Australia, had to undergo extensive rehabilitation after he sustained serious injuries in a 2006 car accident. A spinal procedure he received three years ago resulted in complications, including spinal nerve damage, and he had to learn how to walk again for the second time. Despite these setbacks, he remained determined to help others who had suffered spinal cord injuries. He had been raising funds for Spinal Cord Injuries Australia. Reports indicate that he became ill and was assisted off the summit but collapsed on a platform below. Rescuers were unable to reach him due to the weather conditions. This is the 10th death during the prime spring climbing season on Mt Everest. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is offering consular assistance to Kennison’s family.
