Australia has appointed Richard Feakes as its next Ambassador for Counter-Terrorism, according to a statement by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. In his new position, Feakes will work with international partners and domestic agencies to combat terrorism and violent extremism. Feakes will also join the Commonwealth Joint Counter-Terrorism Board and the Australia-New Zealand Counter-Terrorism Committee. The former ambassador to Afghanistan is a career diplomat with extensive experience in counter-terrorism and has held a variety of strategic and national security positions in Canberra. In a case study of the 2017 Foreign Policy White Paper, Feakes expressed his passion for diplomacy and his commitment to keeping Australians safe.
