The British maritime security firm Ambrey reported that a container ship targeted by Yemen’s Houthis on Tuesday was a Liberia-flagged vessel bound for Somalia. The Houthi terrorist group, which is aligned with Iran, claimed responsibility for targeting an Israeli cargo ship, the “MSC Silver,” with missiles in the Gulf of Aden near the Red Sea.
Yahya Sarea, a spokesman for the Houthi military, announced that the group used drones to target several U.S. warships in the Red Sea and Arabian Sea, as well as sites in the Israeli town of Eilat. The group characterized the vessel as Israeli, citing that its operator was in cooperation with ZIM, an Israeli international cargo shipping company.
The Houthi attacks on vessels with ties to the United States, Britain, and Israel have led to retaliatory strikes by Western forces on Houthi military sites in Yemen. The group has vowed to continue targeting ships linked to Israel until Israel halts its military operations in Gaza.
The Houthi spokesman, Mohammed Abdul Salam, stated that as long as there are no aggressive operations, there is no danger to international or European navigation and no need to militarize the Red Sea. He emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons.
