Alberta wildfires show progress, allow evacuees to return. 1

Authorities in Alberta have reported progress in their effort to combat wildfires in the region, crediting cooler weather, rain, and the work of firefighters. While some evacuated communities, such as the Shiningbank area of Yellowhead County, the Town of Swan Hills, Fox Creek, and the municipal district of Lesser Slave River, are set to see residents return, 11 evacuation orders remain in place. Over 7,000 people remain displaced from their homes, while the province remains under a state of emergency. Mental health resources remain available to those affected by the fires. Christie Tucker with Alberta Wildfire noted that the season is not over, with plans to bring in firefighters from Australia and New Zealand and a Hercules air tanker from California to fight the blazes.
