Alberta firearms officer says gun-restriction bill won't reduce crime; wastes taxpayer dollars. 1

Alberta Chief Firearms Officer Teri Bryant testified before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security on March 10 regarding Bill C-21, which would permanently ban the buying, selling, and importation of several firearms in Canada. Bryant criticized the legislation, stating that it is expensive and will not improve public safety. She suggested that taxpayers’ money would be better spent on enforcing firearms prohibition orders, reinforcing the border, or combatting the drug trade and gang activity. Bryant also argued that the bill would impact Canadian firearms businesses and shooting ranges and is an attempt to destroy long-established communities of law-abiding firearms owners across the country by targeting their property. Several provinces, including Alberta, have opposed Ottawa’s proposed gun buyback program.
