Former United States Vice President and climate change activist Al Gore has praised the new Queensland Premier Steven Miles for his ambitious plan to cut climate emissions by 75 percent by 2035. This announcement comes after Mr. Miles was selected as the 40th premier of Queensland, replacing Annastacia Palaszczuk.
In a post on social media, Mr. Gore expressed his delight with the new premiere’s climate targets and referred to him as an inspiration around the globe. The 75-year-old political figure has been advocating for climate action for years, founding The Climate Reality Project and starring in the documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
Mr. Gore received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his climate activism, and his endorsement of Premier Miles’ climate targets was well-received. In response to the post from Mr. Gore, Steven Miles thanked the former vice-president for his support and expressed confidence that Queensland’s emission reduction plan, combined with the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, will help the region reach its ambitious target.
