Bill Gates and leaders at the CSIRO National Artificial Intelligence Centre have predicted acceleration of new discoveries due to the use of AI. AI is expected to be integrated into people’s lives by 2024 as the “new AI normal.” It is anticipated that hundreds of millions of people will be using the increasingly advanced features of AI in their everyday life and work, as per Judy Slatyer, a leader at the NAIC. She also forecasts increased investor interest in AI and the need for AI systems showing value beyond the technological aspect to avoid becoming just a fad.
In the future, governance of AI could take center stage, with governments taking action on controlling AI. Keith Strier, NVIDIA vice president, predicts a shift from discussions of global AI governance to the formation of dedicated government bodies focused on AI governance. Kobi Leins, an AI ethics and governance head, suggested that governance will play an increasingly important role, especially as AI adoption increases and the effects of rapid climate change become more noticeable.
Bill Gates also shared his predictions for the widespread use of AI across the United States and developed countries. He predicts that high-income countries are close to significant levels of AI use and that even in African countries, AI will see increasing use in the next few years. As a grandparent, he imagines the world that his granddaughter will inherit, and how AI will impact her generation. He believes AI has the potential to improve access to education, mental health services, and more.
