Abdul Ezedi, the suspect in a recent alkali attack, is believed to have drowned in the River Thames, according to the Metropolitan Police. The authorities have been searching for his body, but the fast currents of the river may make it impossible to locate. Ezedi has been wanted by the police since the attack on January 31st, which resulted in serious injuries to his ex-girlfriend, her daughter, and himself, as well as injuries to other individuals, including police officers.
Police tracked Ezedi to Battersea Park and believe he is lost from sight at Chelsea Bridge, where authorities now suspect he entered the river. Police Commissioner Jon Savell stated that extensive searches are ongoing, but the fast-flowing and treacherous conditions of the Thames may prevent Ezedi’s body from ever being found.
Camera footage shows Ezedi exhibiting unusual behavior at the bridge, and he is understood to have suffered significant injuries during the incident. The investigation remains active, and authorities are still gathering evidence to better understand the events of that night. Ezedi’s history in the UK includes a previous conviction, but he was allowed to remain in the country. An appeal against the initial rejection of his asylum claim led to him staying in the UK, due in part to his conversion to Christianity. Ezedi, who is not the father of the children injured in the attack, also suffered significant injuries, further complicating the situation.
