3 individuals reported missing, officials issue warning 1

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has advised people against traveling to Mexico following the disappearance of three Texans. DPS Director Steven McCraw stated that the agency has a duty to warn the public about travel risks, threats, and safety, and given the dangerous cartel activity and violence in the country, they are urging individuals to avoid travel to Mexico for now. Lt. Chris Olivarez from DPS also warned Spring breakers specifically not to visit Mexico, given its increase in violence and kidnappings. The warning came after three women from Texas went missing while visiting a flea market in the city of Montemorelos in Nuevo Leon State. The FBI and the State Department are aware of the situation and working with Mexican authorities to investigate. In addition, four Americans were recently kidnapped during a trip to Matamoros, south of Brownsville, with two of them losing their lives. Mexican officials arrested six people linked to the incident, and the Gulf cartel’s Scorpions faction, held responsible for the kidnapping, has issued an apology letter. However, relatives of the abducted Americans have expressed their pain and dissatisfaction, calling for both the American and Mexican governments to address cartel violence. U.S. officials have already contacted President Andrés Manuel López Obrador directly, saying that the cartel in Matamoros must be dismantled.
